Interesting.
Hello,
This is a inquiry for the webmaster/admin here at team1432.org.
May I use some of the information from your blog post above if I provide a link back to your website?
Thanks,
Daniel
Absolutely – We’d love to have people spread the word about what is happening with the team.
Hello Team 1432! My name is Sarah Martino and I hail from team 753 in Bend, OR. I heard about your situation and I am devastated that anyone would treat such a great program and a great team in such a poor manner! I am currently trying to spread this video, and the awareness that is brought with it, to not only my team but to all FIRST teams that I have connection with. I hope that it will help, but until our next meeting when we bring it up, it will have to do.
Good luck and I hope to see you in the Portland regional!
We shall be there come hell or high water. Thanks for the support and for spreading the word for us.
We will eventually get the grant money back but the small donations and money we raised doing fundraisers is still in question. I’m thinking we should offer to send various school administrators and school board members lumps of coal for donations of $25. Think anybody would be interested?
I’d contribute to that.
By the way, something else to consider – since you folks probably know the names of those involved in discouraging support for your team, why not get some Christmas stockings (preferably cheap ones from a place like Buck-In-Hand Palace or Dollar Tree) and put the names of the aforementioned people on the stockings?
That way, if someone wants his piece of coal to go to a specific person involved in the whole “ditch-FIRST-for-MESA” incident, you could do that with relative ease.
(By the by, if memory serves – and please correct me if I’m wrong – but isn’t FIRST officially recognized by the government as a sports agency akin to the NCAA? If that’s the case, then neither the FHS Student Handbook or PPSA Directive 4.40.050-AD staff requirements would apply to FIRST meetings.)
How do we find out about government recognition? Is there a government agency that would have that information? One would think FIRST would know. I’ll start there. Thanks for the encouragement I’ll let you kn ow about the coal. We’ll have internet at the place we meet now later this week so tings will be updated and improved soon. It’s kinda touch and go at the moment.
Well, some of the data I have isn’t the best, but I think that there might be some kind of process or other that an organization such as FIRST would have to go through in order to be legally recognized as a sport.
I could be mistaken, as this particular field isn’t really a specialty of mine, but it’s something worth investigating.
While it’s an amusing idea it just doesn’t fit the Gracious Professionalism credo of FIRST. One of the mentors suggested that it could be our green project because every lump of coal we delivered would be kept out of commercial use, but I think that’s just stretching it too far. We will maintain the high ground. Keep watching there is going to be another article. Apparently the principle decided that the first story was inaccurate.
Do donations made now on this website go directly to the team, or do they end up in the same school-controlled accounts that are being restricted?
I’d be happy to make a small donation to help the cause, but I want to make sure that you’ll actually get the money.
Donations to the team now go directly to the team. You may make a donation using Pay Pal or if you’d rather send a check here’s the information:
for your records: the Tax ID number : 930206335
Bank: Northwest Adventist Federal Credit Union
10333 SE Main st
Portland, Oregon 97216
Account name: FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1432 – though I’ll bet they’d accept FRC Team 1432
Hope that helps and thanks for thinking of us! Would you like to be put on our mailing list? If so just send us an e-mail – the link is in the upper left hand corner of the Home page.
